Dr. Majid Akbarzadeh Khorshidi

Dr Majid Akbarzadeh Khorshidi joined Dublin City University (DCU) in January 2026 as an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and was previously a Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin (TCD), where he worked on computational and experimental biomechanics, collaborating with Boston Scientific (Clonmel) on the development of urological implantable devices.

Research Interests

His research focuses on the biomechanics of biological tissues and the mechanics of materials, with particular emphasis on constitutive modelling, continuum mechanics, and finite element simulation of biological systems. His work integrates experimental characterisation, computational modelling, and translational applications, aiming to support the design and optimisation of implantable medical devices and to advance the understanding of tissue mechanics.

Teaching Interests

At Trinity College Dublin (TCD), I served as a lecturer and later as module coordinator for Finite Element Analysis during the academic years 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25, and 2025/26. In 2025/26, I also contributed to teaching the Biomechanics module at TCD. In addition, I was invited to deliver lectures for the Junior Sophister Seminar in Biomedical Engineering (2023 and 2024), aimed at engaging third-year undergraduate students with research-led topics closely aligned with my work. Prior to this, I delivered several modules as a lecturer at the University of Applied Science and Technology (UAST), Iran, including Mechanical Engineering Design I & II, Automatic Control, and Jig and Fixture Design. At Dublin City University, I am currently teaching Advanced Biomechanics and Biotransport Phenomena and Rehabilitation Engineering. My teaching philosophy focuses on developing a strong understanding of fundamental principles while encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. I aim to integrate theory with practical and research-informed examples, helping students connect engineering concepts to real-world biomedical applications.
