School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering
Engineering is the practical application of science, math, and technology to design solutions that fulfill human and societal needs
Based within the Faculty of Engineering and Computing, the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering comprises over 25 academic staff offering doctoral-level supervision. The School currently hosts more than 40 PhD candidates and 20 postdoctoral researchers. Our highly international research community attracts students and scholars from Ireland, the UK, the EU, and countries such as Iran, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia, China, and India. Research is supported by state-of-the-art laboratory spaces—both within core School facilities and affiliated DCU research centers—maintained by expert technical officers.
Our research activities broadly falls into four strategic research themes. Each of these themese align with our undergraduate engineering degrees:
- Innovative Manufacturing aligns with the BEng / MEng in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering
- Sustainable Technologies aligns with the BEng / MEng in Mechanical and Sustainability Engineering
- Biomedical Engineering aligns with the BEng/MEng in Biomedical Engineering
- Automation and Sensing aligns with the BEng/MEng in Mechatronics
We welcome enquiries from prospective postgraduate research students, research partners and organisations interested in working with us.
