Dr. Anne Parle

Prof Anne Parle is Principal Investigator (PI) of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory based in the School of Biotechnology. She is the founding Director of DCU Life Sciences Institute.  Her research interests lie within the domains of basic and health-related research and the application of nucleic acid-based methodologies for diagnostics and biosensor development.  Anne has worked with DNA and RNA for over 25 years in areas from cancer research to the yeast genome, folate nutrigenetics and environmental monitoring. She is applying her expertise to range of research challenges across DCU Life Sciences Institute and Water Institute.

Research Interests

Anne Parle is a molecular geneticist specializing in functional genetics, gene expression and nucleic acid based diagnostic testing. Her current research focuses on the development of low cost, point-of-need diagnostic tests for the detection of resistant plant pathogens, species of conservation concern, invasive species and cancer subtypes. Her team are developing testing solutions with high specificity to achieve lineage detection that can distinguish at a single nucleotide difference level.  This also incorporates the utilization of environmental DNA/RNA from water and air samples for a variety of applications.
