School of Biotechnology

Our School's mission is to understand biological living systems and apply biotechnology approaches to address challenges in health, industry and the environment. Our research spans across a broad range of areas, including:

- Cancer biology
- Biotherapeutics and drug screening
- Immunology and infection biology
- Neurobiology, cardiobiology and molecular biology
- Protein/antibody engineering and computational biology
- Bioprocessing and biomanufacturing
- Waste treatment and environmental biotechnology
- Renewable and sustainable bio-based technologies

We promote multidisciplinary research, bringing together biologists, engineers, and computational scientists to develop innovative solutions for healthcare, industrial biotechnology, and sustainability.

Our teaching provides students with scientific knowledge and practical research and industry-relevant skills. Teaching is supported by state-of-the-art laboratories, research facilities and pilot plant infrastructure.

We produce graduates who can contribute to the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare and bio-industrial sectors while advancing research that benefits scoiety through improved health, sustainable production and environmental protection.

We welcome expressions of interest from prospective postgraduate researchers, academic collaborators, and industry partners interested in advancing cellular biotechnology research and innovation. Through the Pure research portal, you can discover the breadth of expertise within the School, explore research outputs and projects, and connect with academics driving innovation in health, cellular biology, biotechnology,  bioprocessing, bioengineering and bio-economy.
