School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health

Research focused on health and wellbeing that makes a difference to people’s lives

Our School has a vibrant research community of academic researchers and postgraduate research students. We undertake innovative, applied research to address pressing challenges in health and wellbeing. Working with healthcare professionals, policymakers, service users and communities, we engage in projects that are responsive and connected to people’s lives.

Our research is organised around six key areas:

  • Mental Health, Psychotherapy and Wellbeing
  • Education and Professional Practice
  • Health Systems, Community and Global Health
  • Child and Family Care
  • Inclusion Health
  • Ageing

Together, these themes reflect the breadth of research across the School and our focus on equitable, and evidence informed health and social care.

We welcome enquiries from prospective postgraduate research students, research partners and organisations interested in working with us. Through the Pure research portal, you can explore our researchers’ areas of expertise, publications and projects, as well as opportunities for collaboration.

Transforming healthcare through simulation

Our School's Clinical Education Centre (CEC) provides a setting for research into simulation, clinical education and emerging healthcare technologies. It comprises six clinical teaching and simulation rooms, four of which replicate practice environments, including adult and children’s nursing settings and a community apartment. The Centre also hosts human patient simulators, clinical task trainers, advanced audio visual systems and virtual reality equipment.

Our Clinical Education Centre brings together academic, clinical and technical expertise. It supports research on clinical reasoning, communication, teamwork, digital learning and patient safety, while offering opportunities to work with partners across healthcare, education and technology.
