School of Language, Literacy & Early Childhood Education
Research in the School of Language, Literacy & Early Childhood Education is centred on teacher education, early childhood, and pedagogy, with a strong commitment to inclusive and equitable education. Our staff investigate how teachers learn and develop, from initial teacher education through to ongoing professional development, and explore approaches such as reflective practice, communities of practice, and inquiry-based learning. We also work across literacies, language acquisition and learning, creativity, digital learning, and the teaching of Irish. A further thread of our research addresses children's rights, diversity, identity, educational disadvantage, special education, and social-emotional development, alongside work on assessment, leadership, partnerships, and education policy. Together, this breadth reflects a shared interest in improving the experiences and outcomes of learners and the educators who support them.
